Parks and Open Space
Parks
Downtown San Diego covers 2.2 square miles and is being planned to be able to accommodate up to 90,000 residents and 165,000 workers by the year 2030. To maximize usage and overall appeal, planning for downtown San Diego’s parks extends beyond boundaries of each individual open space. The Downtown San Diego Public Open Space Implementation Plan, currently being finalized, draws on conclusions from a comprehensive needs assessment to create a framework for downtown’s parks and open spaces that addresses policy, maintenance, operation, funding, programming, and design. Parks and open spaces located throughout downtown will include full block green fields for active recreation, to urban plazas that can support a variety of events and activities, to smaller pocket parks that provide a respite from the hustle and bustle of an active urban environment.
