Overview
To improve the quality of life for current and future downtown residents, workers and visitors, and to attract and retain families to downtown, the mission of the Downtown Education Task Force is to identify, analyze, expand, improve and promote educational opportunities in the downtown region for all citizens.
Throughout the area, many excellent and creative educational facilities, serving all ages, have been established. However, despite the progress, evidence indicates the quality, quantity and variety of educational opportunities are not meeting expectations of current residents, and will be inadequate to serve the anticipated future student population.
To address the growing disparity, the task force was established in February 2007. Carrying out the goals outlined in the San Diego Downtown Community Plan, the group is a joint effort among CCDC, the Downtown San Diego Partnership, the Little Italy Association, the Little Italy Residents Association, the San Diego Unified School District, Washington Elementary School, California Charter School Association, San Diego Community College and a number of downtown parents and other stakeholders.
The next Downtown Education Task Force Meeting is scheduled for December 2, 2010.
