LAURIE BLACK APPOINTED TO CCDC BOARD
Local Business Leader Confirmed by San Diego City Council
SAN DIEGO – Local San Diego businesswoman Laurie Black was unanimously confirmed by the San Diego City Council today to serve on the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC) Board of Directors. Black will fill a vacant seat for a term ending May 1, 2012.
Laurie Black has been involved in the San Diego community for more than twenty years. She currently holds the position of Principal for LJ Black Consulting Group, a firm that handles strategy, visioning and public relations for local clients.
Black was previously president of the Downtown San Diego Partnership and chief of staff to Congresswoman Lynn Schenk, but most recently served as a commissioner for the San Diego Port District.
Laurie Black is a member of the Downtown San Diego Partnership, a Commissioner on the San Diego Library Foundation and an Alternate Board Member for the San Diego World Trade Center. Black is a past board member for the San Diego City College Foundation and Community College Advisory Board. Black has sat on the boards of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau, San Diego Opera and San Diego County Regional Water Quality Control Board. Laurie Black received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University in Political Science, where she is still active as an Ambassador for Higher Education.
Black has received numerous awards and recognition for her extensive civic service, including an Alonzo Award for her leadership in creating the popular Clean & Safe Program downtown and has been honored by the Salvation Army as one of the 10 Women of Dedication in 2002 and listed in San Diego Magazine’s “50 People to Watch.” Ms. Black is also a LEAD graduate and a recent recipient of their Quality of Living award for her involvement in the community that leads to a better quality of life in San Diego.

CCDC is the public, nonprofit corporation created by the City of San Diego in 1975 to staff, plan and implement downtown’s redevelopment on behalf of the City’s Redevelopment Agency. CCDC offices are located at Wells Fargo Plaza, 401 B Street, Suite 400, in downtown San Diego.
