The following summarizes Wednesday’s meeting:
Fire station No. 2 (Bayside) - BOARD Recommends permit and design approval
The Board recommended that the Planning Commission recommend that the Redevelopment Agency grant Design Review approval and that the City Council approve the Centre City Planned/Coastal Development Permit for Fire Station No. 2 also known as Bayside. The proposed 15,980 square foot fire station, to be located at the southeast corner of Pacific Highway at Cedar Street in Little Italy, would accommodate three fire vehicles, living and working quarters for the fire crew and one level of underground parking (16 spaces). Construction of this fire station west of the railroad tracks will significantly enhance fire safety in downtown San Diego. (Vote 6-0). To read the complete staff report for item 5, click here.
DOWNTOWN Quiet Zone - Construction and Funding Recommended by Board
The Board recommended that the Redevelopment Agency and the City Council approve construction of the Downtown Quiet Zone to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety at 12 downtown crossings and reduce locomotive horn noise for residents, hotels and businesses. The $20.9 million project would add safety improvements including the installation of medians, pedestrian curb ramps, new traffic signals, quadrant gates at various crossings and sidewalk improvements,. Downtown public right-of-way crossings include First and Fifth avenues, Front Street, Kettner Boulevard and G Street, Market Street, Broadway and Ash Street, Beech, Cedar, Grape, Hawthorn and Laurel streets.
