Seventh and Market Site in Downtown San Diego Reopens as Surface Parking Lot
Environmental Remediation Work Completed to Remove Contaminated Soils
SAN DIEGO – Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), working on behalf of the San Diego Redevelopment Agency, has reopened the 150-space surface parking lot on Seventh Avenue and Market Street in downtown San Diego after completing six months of environmental remediation work. The Redevelopment Agency-owned site will be managed by Sunset Parking with daily rates ranging from $5 to $17 (special event rate). Monthly permits are available as well.
"It was important to complete the improvements and reopen the public parking lot as quickly as possible," said CCDC Executive Vice President and CFO Frank Alessi. "Providing convenient and affordable parking to help meet the increasing demand remains a top priority for the Downtown Community Parking District and CCDC."
A $1.5 million grant from the Orphan Site Cleanup Account Program (OSCA) was used to fund a majority of the remediation work. The OSCA Program, established in January 2005 by the State of California Water Resources Control Board, provides grants for cleaning "brownfield" sites contaminated by petroleum underground storage tanks when responsible parties cannot be identified.
CCDC is the public, nonprofit corporation created by the City of San Diego in 1975 to staff, plan and implement downtown's redevelopment on behalf of the City's Redevelopment Agency.CCDC offices are located at Wells Fargo Plaza, 401 B Street, Suite 400, in downtown San Diego.
