CCDC ORGANIZES FIRST-EVER DOWNTOWN EDUCATION FAIR

SAN DIEGO, CA — The Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC)’s Downtown Education Task Force will be hosting the first-ever Downtown Education Fair on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Gorton Quad at San Diego City College. The fair will highlight existing downtown schools, educational institutions, organizations and activities, ranging from preschool level through adult education.  There is no cost to attend the fair.

”We recognize the important role that schools and quality educational opportunities play in attracting and retaining residents and businesses downtown and assuring a great quality of life for families,” said CCDC President Nancy Graham. “We hope this fair will raise awareness of the many choices currently available downtown and help us gauge interest in future educational opportunities.”

The task force was established to evaluate existing downtown educational opportunities and to discuss possibilities for future schools and programs that would be needed to support downtown’s emerging population. The fair was created to inform downtown residents and others throughout San Diego County about the various opportunities currently available downtown such as schools, summer programs, cultural programs and events for both children and adults.

“A great city requires sound educational systems,” said Luce Forward Partner Nancy Scull, Chair of the Community Outreach committee for the CCDC Downtown Education Task Force. “We have those resources here and want those who live downtown, those who are considering a move downtown or others who work in the area to have an understanding about what schools and cultural experiences are available to them.”

A number of organizations with locations within or adjacent to downtown and Balboa Park will be participating. These include San Diego City College, San Diego Unified School District, San Diego Junior Theatre, The Maritime Museum of San Diego, The Museum School, California Western School of Law, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Urban Discovery Academy Charter School, Washington Elementary, YMCA of San Diego County, The Gaslamp Quarter Association, High Tech High, San Diego Homeschooling, Hostelling International San Diego, Mountain Lakes Chess Camp, San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, San Diego Repertory Theatre and more.

Free activities for children such as calligraphy, chess and live performances will also be part of the event. A complete list of fair participants will be posted at www.ccdc.com.

For more information about attending or exhibiting at the fair, please call Jacki Taylor at 619-533-7145, click here , or visit the Meetings and Events Calendar at www.ccdc.com and click on May 10.
