Recommended Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge Design to be Unveiled
Recommended Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge design to be unveiled
Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC) to hold second public workshop
SAN DIEGO, CA - The second of two public workshops to unveil the recommended Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge design will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Culy Warehouse, located at 335 6th Ave., between J and K Streets downtown. The first workshop was held on Oct. 7 and showcased four conceptual bridge designs developed by CCDC’s award-winning consultant, T.Y. Lin International. This workshop allowed community members to learn more about the project and provide input on the various designs. Based on the community feedback received at the first workshop, T.Y. Lin narrowed the bridge design options from four to one.
“Gathering public input on the pedestrian bridge was crucial to the design creation and selection process,” said Garry Papers, manager of architecture and planning for CCDC. “We wanted to hear first hand from the residents and business owners that will ultimately view and use the bridge. I am confident that the bridge design accurately incorporates the feedback received at the first workshop and complements the surrounding structures.”
Fulfilling a California Public Utilities Commission requirement, the pedestrian bridge will provide a safe crossing over a heavily traveled Harbor Drive and existing train and trolley tracks, facilitating the completion of the vehicular intersection at Harbor Drive and Park Boulevard. Not only will this bridge improve vehicular and pedestrian traffic, but it will also complete a 100-year old vision of a Park-to-Bay Link, connecting two important regional assets: Balboa Park and San Diego Bay.
