Tracy Jarman To Receive CCDC Directors' Award

TRACY JARMAN TO RECEIVE

CCDC DIRECTORS’ AWARD

Retired San Diego Fire Chief to be Honored for her Commitment to the Redevelopment of Downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Centre City Development Corporation’s (CCDC) Board of Directors will honor recently retired San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman with a Directors’ Award during the Oct. 21 Board meeting at 1 p.m. at CCDC.  Chief Jarman will be recognized for more than 25 years of distinguished service and commitment to San Diego and downtown’s redevelopment program.

“Chief Jarman has demonstrated exceptional leadership in public service and long been involved in redevelopment discussions involving public safety” said CCDC Director Jennifer LeSar.  “She has been instrumental in planning several new fire stations to support and protect the growing population.  The Board is honored to present Chief Jarman with a Directors’ Award for her dedication and contributions to San Diego.”

Chief Jarman was recruited to the San Diego Fire Department in 1984.  As a 25-year veteran, she performed virtually every position within the department including Deputy Chief and Assistant Fire Chief.  In 2006, she was appointed Fire Chief and was one of 34 female fire chiefs in the United States, the first in San Diego.  She administered a staff of 1,250 firefighters, lifeguards, paramedics, emergency medical technicians and civilian personnel and managed a budget of $191 million.

Chief Jarman has been honored as 2008 Fire Chief of the Year by the California Fire Chiefs Association, California State Legislature’s 2008 Woman of the Year and Girl Scout’s 2007 Cool Woman of the Year.  She earned her associate of arts degree from Palomar College, a fire science degree from Miramar College, a bachelors degree in biology and a masters degree in public administration from San Diego State University.
