DAVID ALLSBROOK TO RECEIVE CCDC DIRECTORS’ AWARD

CCDC Assistant VP of Contracting and Public Works to be Recognized for More Than 30 Years of Service to Downtown

SAN DIEGO – Centre City Development Corporation’s (CCDC’s) Board of Directors will honor Assistant Vice President David Allsbrook with a Directors’ Award during the March 26 board meeting at 1 p.m. in City Council Chambers.  Allsbrook will be recognized for more than 30 years of service and commitment to downtown’s redevelopment.

“David has been an integral part of downtown’s renaissance,” said CCDC Chair Fred Maas. “He has been instrumental in the transformation of what is now a flourishing urban environment. From major redevelopment efforts like Horton Plaza, PETCO Park and the recently completed Balboa Theatre, to challenging endeavors like finding a location for the Winter Homeless Shelter, David has been a part of nearly every major project CCDC has completed. His passion and dedication are true assets to downtown. We are extremely honored to recognize David with a Directors’ Award.”

David Allsbrook first started work in November 1970 at the City of San Diego’s Redevelopment Agency, where he worked for eight years on such projects as San Diego City College and Horton Plaza. Allsbrook joined CCDC in 1978.

He has worked his way through the organization, and currently is the assistant vice president of contracting and public works. He oversees eight staff members and is responsible for acquiring land for parks and open spaces; relocating tenants; managing property; managing the public works and capital improvement programs and monitoring fair and open contract bidding processes.

During his 38 years in San Diego redevelopment, Allsbrook’s many endeavors contribute to his being a prominent downtown figure, such as:

  • Land acquisition and development agreements for Horton Plaza, PETCO Park and residential redevelopment projects in East Village, Little Italy and Marina
  • Involvement in the adoption of the Horton Plaza, Columbia,  Marina and Centre City Redevelopment Plans, which transformed downtown
  • Management of CCDC’s Equal Opportunity efforts

Allsbrook has also enjoyed a long history of involvement with the San Diego community. His service includes 12 years on both the Regional Task Force on the Homeless (chair from 1996 to 2000) and the YMCA’s Board of Youth and Family Services (chair from 2000 to 2002).  He has served on the board of directors for Children’s Health Fund for San Diego and Imperial Counties since 1993 and is currently the vice president. He has also been a member of the International Right of Way Association for 26 years, where he served as president from 1990 to 2001, and was recognized as Professional of the Year in 1991 and 1996.

Allsbrook graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. in public administration and has conducted graduate work in urban geography. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife Ruth, golfing, reading and long-range deep sea fishing.
