SAN DIEGO, CA – On Saturday, December 8, approximately 60 tons of snow will blanket the Park at the Park at PETCO Park. Title sponsor, Westfield Horton Plaza in partnership with the Downtown Communications Council (DCC), the San Diego Padres, Centre City Development Corporation and a special group of downtown realtors to present the fourth annual Snow Day at the Park at the Park at PETCO Park. The DCC, a collaborative of downtown marketing and public relations professionals, created the event to draw people downtown and are hosting this free event as part of the greater Downtown for the Holidays program. Park gates open at 9 a.m. and the event will last until 12 p.m. or until the snow melts. Sledding equipment will be provided by the Padres.
“The event has quickly become a popular holiday activity in downtown San Diego,” said CCDC Downtown Information Center (DIC) Manager and Downtown for the Holidays Chair Jacki Taylor. “It is exciting to see how many people come downtown to enjoy this event and the many other fun events planned throughout December. Watching children see snow for the first time is very rewarding.”
Other activities planned at the event include an appearance by The Padres’ “Santa Friar,” holiday carolers, an ornament-making area, a holiday bake sale, elf face painters applying holiday-themed designs and animated classics presented on the FriarVision video board. Concessions will be available and proceeds will benefit the Madres, a nonprofit organization that supports more than 100 local youth baseball teams. The Padres will be collecting new unwrapped toys and non-perishable food on behalf of the local Salvation Army.
Suggested parking locations within short walking distance of PETCO Park include the 1,000-space 6th and K Parkade and the 1,100-space Padres Parkade at Tenth Avenue and J Street. Additionally, the San Diego Trolley will run regular service with suggested stops at Fifth Avenue across from the San Diego Convention Center and at Park Boulevard between Market Street and Island Avenue.
