As vice chancellor of external and business affairs at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Steve Relyea oversees many campus-wide operations including financial services, human resources, information technology, telecommunications, housing, dining services, development, and alumni affairs.

Relyea serves on the boards of directors of the Better Business Bureau of San Diego, Internet 2, the Gemological Institute of America, the La Jolla Playhouse, and serves as President of the UCSD Foundation. He was named 2004 Distinguished Business Officer of the Year by the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Relyea and his team are the recipients of the USA Today Quality Cup award.

Relyea has been at UCSD since 1986. Previously, he was associate dean for administration at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) College of Medicine and assistant vice chancellor for administrative and business services at the UCI campus. Relyea received his bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in business administration at UCI.
